For the last 5 years we’ve been working in our “lab” exploring ways of sparking the creative imagination and connecting across all kinds of boundaries. And our most important tool has been the Story Circle, a beautiful form for coming together and exploring the stories of our lives, our stories, our cultures, and beginning to imagine the future that is coming towards us. And it’s been an amazing ride.
But we’ve kept it small, bringing people together mostly by direct invitation. Now, we’re ready to go wide. This is indeed because the form is maturing and so it’s natural to share with more interested folks. But we are also called by the times. The forces of fear, division and even hatred are growing and pushing their way into the mainstream. And we in Canada will certainly not be insulated from any of it. People like Kellie Leitch are already playing with fire for personal political gain.
We at DG think that the best defence is a good offence, and in this case the best offence is to create and strengthen the web of relationships we have across communities, cultures, religions, languages and life experiences. The better we know each other, the more warmth we can create, the more connecting strands we can weave, then healthier we’ll be, able to fight off the social illness that will try to bring us down.
